MTN, GTB clinch Web-Jurist 2012 website awards

Lagos. August 1, 2012: MTN Nigeria, the telecoms market leader has emerged the winner of the telecoms category of the Web-Jurist Award 2012, a leading laurel that rewards businesses for the corporate effectiveness of their websites.
On the other hand, GTBank clinched the top position in the banking category at the tenth edition of the Awards organised by the Technology Division of Philips Consulting, a Lagos-based consultancy.
The Web-Jurist is primarily aimed at measuring the effectiveness of websites to ensure the continuous enhancement of e-business activities and encourage best web communication practice, organisers said.
While MTN Nigeria emerged the overall top telecoms operator in website effectiveness, Etisalat Nigeria was ranked second while Starcomms took the third place in the telecoms category.
Apart from being the overall winner, MTN also came top in best technical structure and security category.
Visafone won the best website contents award while the best customer aesthetics goes to Starcomms Nigeria.
In the banking sector category, Guaranty Trust Bank, Nigeria won the overall bank website effectiveness award, followed by Zenith Bank, Nigeria which also went home with the best customer experience award.
GTB also came top in the best technical structure and security category. The bank in the third place, Access Bank Nigeria bagged the best web transaction processing award.
Web-Jurist named Industrial and General Insurance (IGI) as number one insurance company with effective website while Zenith Assurance came second and Consolidated Hallmark took the third position.
Since its maiden edition in 2001, the Web-Jurist has successfully established a barometer for measuring the effectiveness of websites to ensure the continuous enhancement of e-business activities and encourage best web communication practice, according to Philips Consulting.
GTB also came top in the best technical structure and security category in the Web-Jurist Award.
At the 2012 edition of the Web-Jurist Awards tagged ‘Cashlite Nigeria- The related Telecommunication and Technology Issues’ held in Lagos at the weekend, the consulting company said that its index covered 18 banks, 25 insurance companies, seven telecoms companies and six discount houses.
Chief Executive Officer, Philips Consulting, Foluso Philips notes that the tenth edition of Web-Jurist was a very special edition marking its 20th anniversary of the company.
“We have come a long way. We had an impact on the digital landscape. In our observation we noticed that a lot of opportunities have been lost because of the improper management of company’s website,” Philips adds.
According to him, today, there is a whole new world that is emerging with the way business transaction is being made online.
He encourages Nigerian businesses to invest more resources in developing efficient corporate websites that aid transactions, enhance customer loyalty and facilitate a broader market reach.
According to him, “some organisation have shown more interest in developing their website because of Web-Jurist, these companies are on the best way to have a workable website”
Commenting on the rankings, Head Technology, Philips Consulting, Seun Ngonnase says that GTB has been consistent in the quality of service delivery via its website.
The bank continually improves its websites in the six main criteria used in the ratings and did well across all the metrics, Ngonnase adds.
The criteria used include Aesthetic, Technical Aspect (focusing on the operational qualities), e-Financial Services (focusing on the functional value of the site, availability and functionality of e-services), Customer Experience, Content and Performance.
